So I'm procrastinating a project that I need to be working on for work, but it doesn't interest me at all so instead I've decided to update the status of my Man Card. As I've mentioned before, I'm in San Antonio and loving it. Jeremie and Scott have made many comments over the years that I'm lacking a Man Card, and so I took the first steps in obtaining this said card when I moved down here to Texas and purchased my home. The first time I walked into my house I loved it. I wanted this house and only this house, and so I made my offer and it was accepted. So on April 15th I took that first all-important step to obtaining my card. Only one thing about my house really rubbed me the wrong way, and that was the lighting in the kitchen.
I took the liberty of highlighting the lighting fixtures that were in the kitchen that I really hated. The light over the sink (the crystal ball) wasn't too terrible, but the florescent light box was just awful and had to go. I hate those lights with a passion. That was one of my biggest dislikes about mom's house, those crappy lights in the kitchen. So I resolved, even before my offer on the house had been approved, to change out the florescent lights; and since I was taking out the florescent lights I had to remove the crystal ball too...cause things have to match. So the day I got into San Antonio, dad flew in and spent the weekend with me. A very mighty thanks to him for the help and guidance in setting me on the path to obtain my Man Card.
Over that weekend we probably made a dozen trips to the Home Depot, and I'm proud to say that I have started on the path needed to become a Man. My first real new toys that I purchased were, according to dad, Jeremie, Scott, and I'm sure all other men in the world, the staple of what being a man is all about and necessary toys I HAVE to own. And I'll be honest, I'm happy I got them.
Just this past week I was out doing yard work (that's right, I manned up and I even do yard work), specifically I was trimming the bushes that wrap around my front porch and noticed that one of the branches on one of the bushes had grown in the wrong direction and stuck out onto the porch. Well, this branch had grown to a considerable thickness, so I pulled out my awesome skill saw and made quick work of that branch, there by allowing me to block off my bushes and making them look really nice.
Anyway, back to the main reason I'm making this post...the kitchen lights. Well, with the help of dad we removed those atrocities (the florescent lights) and replaced them with lights that look so much nicer. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my NEW kitchen...
I was really surprised just how easy it was to change out these lights. Sure, we ran into a few issues with location of the lights not able to go where we originally intended, but I'm very pleased with the final product. So having done this project I'm now one step closer to obtaining my Man Card. To help me along that path I also (with the help of dad) installed a garage door opener (wired it up all my self) and I plan on running some LAN cable (that's the CAT-6 Ethernet cable for the internet) from upstairs down to where my TV is in the living room so I can connect the XBOX 360. And Jeremie tells me that I need to work on my own car as well to finally receive my Man Card, so I guess I'll have to teach myself how to do that stuff too. One step at a time, don't want to overwhelm myself.
