Or maybe I'll do this...

So I WAS planning on going to school so I can get into med school, but I've changed my mind. I was thinking about it and I really don't want to deal with the 2 1/2 years it will take for me to get my degree going full time, since I'm like 99.9% sure that those 2 1/2 years will actually take something more like 4+ years to actually accomplish. I want to be a doctor but I just don't think I'll be able to get my schooling done while I'm in the military...and I'm not able to get out until I'm 32, and I have a time requirement for the military of 2015 (I'll be 35) so I just can't see me actually getting it done while I'm in the military on the government's dime. So the old plan is out.

So I said to myself, "Self, if you're going to do this thing you've got to get it done fast and going to school on your own isn't going to get it done." Now, when I heard that I was a little down in the dumps, so I asked "Well then, what are my options?" and I had a great epiphony...I told myself, "Take the four classes you need for the PA program and do that instead." So that's the new plan. Now, I have very little interest in actually being a PA and I know I said I wasn't going to do the PA thing, but there's a huge perk in going that route. Like I've said, it takes an uneducated turd and in two years they have a Masters Degree and are a PA. So I'm thinking, 2 1/2 years of my own time while working and have a Bachelors Degree and run the risk of it taking much longer OR 2 1/2 years where only 1/2 is on my own time and the other 2 years IS my job and get the Masters Degree...hmm, which to choose. So the new plan is to take the remaining four classes that I need (two of which I'll finish for sure before Christmas) then spend two years becoming a PA. After that, since I'll have a college degree, I'll put in for the med school scholarships and become a real doctor so I won't have to do that grunt work I mentioned before.

Now, just cause it's funny here's a picture.

First of many

Ok, so after countless minutes of thought while reading Scott and Jen's blog I've decided to undertake the tasking of creating my own blog so people that I don't talk to all that often or even at all can keep up with what's going on in my very busy life. Ok, so I'm not actually busy...in fact, I'd say that I would fall into the category of the exact opposite of "busy".

So what's new with me? Let's see, I'm still in the Air Force and in North Carolina and would love nothing more than to get stationed just about anywhere else. My first enlistment actually ended today, but back in December I re-enlisted for another four years so I'm stuck until 2012, which wouldn't bother me if I liked my job. I'm in the Materiel Management career field (that's the fancy name the Air Force has given to Supply to make people feel better about themselves...didn't work on me) and so as the name would suggest I manage materiel. Specifically I go to work and play operator for people wanting to call a family member/friend from oversea. Every now and then I actually have to do my job (which is place an order for a part for the aircraft maintainers) but I've only done that maybe 6 times in the past 3.5 months...so mostly I just read, watch movies, or play bubbles (a stupid game on the computer that actually works on a government computer.)

So yeah, I hate my job. But there is one nice thing about my work schedule, and that's the fact that I work from 23:30 (that would be 11:30 pm) to 07:30 Monday through Friday (which actually is Sunday night to Friday morning). Now, I know that working at night is not exactly the best thing if you're wanting to have a social life, but I'm not to worried about that right now. My main focus is getting my college done, and working at night when nothing happens offers me tons of time to do school. So this August I'm starting school again. 10 years after graduating high school I've finally figured out what I want to do with my life, and it's all because I went to Iraq last summer and realized that I needed a better job. Because as much fun as being a manager of materiel is, this is basically what you do with your time...

So yeah, I need a new job. So while I was making such wonderful use of my time in the sun and dirt my buddy that's stationed out in Okinawa mentioned to me that the Air Force has a killer program that will take an uneducated turd like myself and turn me into a Physician's Assistant in two years. I liked that idea of becoming an officer, getting out of Supply, and getting into the medical field so when I got back I started to take care of things so I could apply to that program. That included taking a Biology, 2 Chemistry, and 2 Anatomy & Physiology classes. While I was taking my Biology class the thought occurred to me, "PAs do all the dirty grunt work that real doctors don't want to do...like make people 'turn their head and cough'" and I'm just not down with that. So PA was out of the question but I finally knew that I wanted into the medical field. Well, after some more conversations with my buddy and some research of my own I found that the Air Force offers two methods for me to go to medical school on their dime, I just need a Bachelors degree. So, as I mentioned, I'll be heading back to school this August to undertake the HUGE task of college so I can get a degree and do more college. But in the end I'm going to be an actual doctor...and I've decided that I'm going to specialize in Cardiology (partly because of Breanne.)
And that's about it for my life right now...well, at least what I'm going to share at this time. It's already 4pm and I'm tired so I'm out!
