I should be hot...

So I was chatting with KayDe the other day and one of the first things she said to me was "Update your blog". So here I am updating my blog. I'm currently sitting at one of the two places on base that offers free WiFi playing spades with some people in my squadron. They felt the need to go contract cancer via cancer sticks, so I figured I'd take this opportunity to write a little something. I probably should be in bed right now as it's currently 10:30am and I need to be up in about 6 hours...but whatever. Good news should come first so I'd like to report that I just won the game of spades, and I haven't played spades in like 6-10 years maybe. So staying up was worth it. But now I want to complete this post and get to bed, since I only slept for like 4 hours last night.

Well, I've been here in Qatar for almost 3 weeks now and I'm really suprised at just how cold this place gets. Sure, the temperature hasn't gotten any lower than 50* at the lowest, but I would have to say that when you take 50*, mix in a cool ocean breeze, and then toss in about 80-95% humidity you've just created a wonderful weather system that could freeze an eskimo out of his mukluks in about 5 minutes. And to make matters worse, I didn't get any cold weather gear issued to me before I came out here, so I'm usually freezing every night. Sure, they can issue me all kinds of cold weather gear when I go to Iraq in the middle of the summer, but heaven forbid should they give me any when I'm going in the winter...that's just crazy talk. But I'm managing to stay cool enough I suppose. I think the coolest thing about the freezing weather here has to be the fog. When it rolls in it reminds me of those old horor movies The Fog or The Mist. It's pretty wild, here's a picture from work. This was taken from the door to the office that I usually hang out in looking toward the flightline. I think the night I took this the visability was down to something like 30-60 meters. As you can tell, everything is soaked as well (and that's a normal nightly thing, even when the fog doesn't come in) and the first time I saw that I swore that it had rained and I missed it, but that's just a mix of the cold air and high humidity. Man I can't wait until it gets really hot here, that's going to be fun.

Things are rather uneventful so far. I go to work and sit at my computer waiting for people with weapons to come in looking to store them, that's why I spend so much time on the internet using gmail to chat to people or playing really stupid Flash games. I guess the coolest part of my night is when the Brits come in and actually have the time to just sit and chat. We get a mix of the same 4 Brits on a very regular basis so we spend a lot of time just joking around with them. They really make me want to get stationed in England, cause they're so funny and cool to talk to.

Anyway, the only other thing I might mention would be the fact that I'm actually going to the gym to lift weights 3 days a week. I plan on taking a before and after picture here soon to compare to what I look like at the end of my deployment. I think it'll be interesting to see how much (if any) I change in 6 months. Don't expect to see the before picture until July, so please don't be too upset. But I'm closing this now, it's 11am and I need to be up by about 4:30pm at the latest. So this is all you get for now.

I tried to get this posted the other day but I lost connection. I think that was a sign that I just needed to go to bed. So here I am, trying to post it again (when I should be in bed anyway.) If you're reading this then I guess it worked.
